Super Weight Gain is actually three supplements in one easy dose that will make a huge difference in your horse.  First, it features full-energy, full-fat soybeans that we extrude onsite for weight gain and coat condition.  Then, we add both a complete pro & prebiotic supplement to get the digestion going again.  Finally, we add the vitamin-mineral package of Horse Guard for overall health.

Designed for horses:

  • That got a little thin over the winter
  • Subjected to travel and competition stress
  • Older horses who just can’t keep on weight
  • Neglected “rescue” horses, or horses recovering from illness / surgery

Super Weight Gain will put weight on horses the healthy way.

This is the first and best horse weight-gain product on the market by far. Here is why: Most “weight gain” products consist of only fat and fiber. While these calories help put weight on horses, there is a lot more to be done. Super Gain provides all of the nutrients listed below:

1. Vitamin & Minerals – Horse Guard’s proven balance which boosts the immune system and a horse’s ability to properly retain weight which no other “weight-gain” product offers.

2. Gut Health – Bacterial and Yeast Inoculants to improve digestibility and stabilize gut activity. They give the gut resistance to disease and increase digestive efficiency. Especially important during stressor events such as transportation, showing, pregnancy, weaning, foaling, old age, heat stress, and medical stress.

3. Protein – Full Energy Extruded Soybeans are the highest quality protein known and provide an extremely high quality energy source. Both nutrients are essential for horses to build muscle and add weight.

4. Vitamin E & Organic Selenium – Critical elements in overcoming and recovering from stress. Organic Selenium is the only natural form of selenium.  Vitamin E works with selenium providing stress resistance and powering horse health.

5. Fat – The basic building block of weight gain and performance.  Soy oils provide the calories necessary for weight gain and performance.

I have a 28 yr. old stallion, I am feeding him senior grain, beet pulp and he is on pasture with lots of feed. I recently bought some super weight gain to add to his diet.. he needs to gain some weight before winter comes. Is this okay? Or will he be getting too many vitamins? Should i cut back on his senior grain?

  2. Heidi Crappell says:

When I say this product made the word of difference in a 24 year old quarter horse, I’m not kidding! He was deteriorating.. quick. Feed and hay wasn’t cutting it anymore. Starting him on SWG turned him around completely. I recommend this to anyone and everyone who’s horse needs the boost. Well worth it!

  3. Robin says:

Can I feed with Purinar Equine Senior feed?

    • mm Dr. Kelsey J. Nonella Ph.D., P.A.S. says:

Thank you for the question. You can feed Super Weight Gain with Purina Equine Senior if you are feeding 6 pounds of less of the Senior.

  4. Ellis Ritchie says:

I have a 13 year old off the track thoroughbred that struggles to keep weight on, he is at a healthy weight right now but by the end of the summer he will most likely get skinnier because of the heat and all of the bugs (I try to cover him in fly spray and fly sheet, fly mask and fly boots so he doesn’t try to run away from them in turnout) . I have been doing B shows for Hunter jumper and he has been doing great but I might move up to A shows. The judges like to see fuller horses and they get scored better especially in my Thoroughbred classes. So my question is do you think this will work better that cool calories and hay cubes that he has already been getting consistently for the last couple of years.

    • mm Dr. Kelsey J. Nonella Ph.D., P.A.S. says:

I think you would be very please if you switched from Cool Calories to Super Weight Gain. Not only is Super Weight Gain going to provide cool energy like Cool Calories, but it also provides a great probiotic package to help him get more out of the feed he is consuming and a great vitamin-mineral package. If you have had success with the hay cubes in addition, I would keep up the hay cubes when you switch to the Super Weight Gain.

  5. Kayla Griego says:

Do i just give the powder in a bucket or do i put it on my horses grain or hay?

    • mm Dr. Kelsey J. Nonella Ph.D., P.A.S. says:

It is typically best to top dress Super Weight Gain on your horse’s grain or hay.

  6. Kathy Burnett says:

If I feed the Simplete senior, can I add this in for wt gain? I have a mare that has nursed 3 foals back to back and I can’t keep wt on her.

    • mm Dr. Kelsey J. Nonella Ph.D., P.A.S. says:

I wouldn’t recommend adding Super Weight Gain to Simplete Senior because both contain a full dose of Horse Guard, so your mare would be getting double dosed on vitamins and minerals. However, you could add Glow to Simplete Senior to give her more calories, because Glow is strictly full-fat extruded soybeans and ground flax cake. Simplete Senior has high levels of probiotics to help level out her gut. The addition of a pound of Glow to Simplete Senior should help to bring her back to a good weight.

Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

  7. Catherine Fortier says:

I spoke with Dr. Kelsey Nonella 6 weeks ago in regards to one of my mini therapy horses with recurrent soft stool and diarrhea. I transitioned him to the Super Weight Gain doing half and half and then 1/4 and 3/4. His stool was improving but it wasn’t until I took all grain away that he returned to normal. He is just a year old but has had this digestive issue since he was 3 months old. The vet was not helpful and just said that he may have a gluten intolerance and to just keep trying different grains. I can’t thank Dr. Kelsey enough for spending time on the phone with me talking through his problem and helping to come up with what just made sense!
As you can imagine, have a therapy horse with frequent and loose stool just won’t work well! Super Weight Gain is an awesome supplement!

  8. L. Williams says:

I am currently raising and showing my three year old warmblood gelding to compete in Hunter Breeding on the A circuit in Southern California. When I got my gelding he was in good health but unfit, lanky and slowly shedding out his winter coat. As part of his regimen to get him show ring ready I put him on Horse Guard Super Weight Gain. Originally he turned his nose up at the yellow granules but adding water to his grain helps him gobble it down. Boy did he fill out and his deep brown coat blossomed with a million dapples. My 3yo looks quite mature for his age and turns heads wherever he goes, he has good energy without being hot and a great attitude.

  9. Kelly Kelvin says:

This product was amazing for my rescue mini horse . She is only getting a half a scoop a day . Brought my rescue home on November 14 th 2015 and feb 2016 she is healthy and up to weight . Can’t say enough good things about this product

  10. Ty Natalie Johnson says:

  11. Sharon Tullis says:

Switched my horse to Super Gain. Within a week we saw a noticeable difference. Mostly in his attitude but his weight was starting to fill in. In 3 weeks we had a “new” horse! He had filled out he was running and bucking. Back to picking on the younger horses! I would recommend this product to everyone!!! By the way our show horses are on TRIFECTA!- Sharon Tullis

  12. Jess Ropp says:

I had a cow pregnant cow that got coccidiosis really bad, and also had a steer that was sneaking milk off of her. She lost a lot of weight and went from a BCS of around 5 to a 2 in a matter of a couple weeks. I took care of the coccidiosis, and put her on super weight gain. In 90 days, I had her looking better then she was before :). Works great with cattle!

  13. Rita says:

  16. Christina M says:

My first horse (I Founda King) I purchase myself. He had a Selenium deficiency (sp) so, we looked around and found Hors Guard. I have used it ever after & the only thing better is Super Gain 🙂 Later found out, I have been using Horse Guard, since the beginning.

  17. Tim says:

20 years ago we started Rhett, a yearling Holsteiner/Dutch Warmblood, on Super Gain as he shot up to over 17h. It worked wonders on him, adding weight and health through his growth spurts. Now, as he’s in his twilight years and losing weight due to arthritis pain Super Gain is back in his diet and , once again, helping maintain his weight and health. Thank you

  18. Colleen says:

I swear by this stuff! Works on hard keepers to rescue horses. Best WEIGHT GAIN product for horses! Colleen

  19. Christina says:

I use Horse Guard Vitamins for my younger horse, Super Gain when needing to add weight or my older horses, but now that my Miniature is starting to get a little age & we are going to more shows, I have moved him on to Trifecta. It has improved our overall performance, with the vitamins, freed up his joints, helped to keep his stomach happy & compliments on his shiny white spots & dappled coat. Thank you for making it easier to feed all 4 supplements in one easy feeding. -Christina

  20. Robyn Anderson says:

I am amazed with Horse Guard and want to share my story.
I breed, train and show AQHA and APHA horses. I raise and sell most of the time. However, somehow two of my daughter’s old show horses found a place in our hearts and have a permanent place on our ranch.Topper is a 21 year old APHA mare. She has been lame or gimpy for many years. I have struggled wondering if I should put her down, which would make our entire family sad. We have owned her for 20 years and she is part of our family. I decided to try a horse supplement “Trifecta” from Horse Guard. It contains the vitamin/mineral formulation, plus a complete hoof and full joint supplement plus MSM and glucosamine…………………….. Thank you! Thank you! for making this miracle feed supplement. Topper is now not only the number one horse in TLC Equine Special Olympics but, being leased to an 11 year old girl taking lessons twice a week and is planning to take her back to the show pen this summer….I have had Topper on “Trifecta” for 6 months. She is sound and out running the young horses on our ranch. Truely Amazing!!!Topper has dropped weight because her age and decrease in appetite and increase of exercise. I started her on “Super Gain” (Horse Guard) two months ago. She has already put the weight back on. I wish I would have taken pictures. You can really see the difference. I highly recommend HORSE GUARD. I put the other older (16 year) AQHA show gelding Bingo on “Trifecta” 6 months ago. He is being leased by a 13 year old girl that rides and rides and then rides some more. Bingo is going strong. They are going to clean up this 2013 show season!
Sincerely and honestly a happy customer for life.
    -Robyn Anderson
