Why Do You Need Horse Supplements?

Horse supplements are a vital part of keeping your horse healthy and happy. Using supplements help you proactively prevent and treat of various ailments in horses. It is important to identify what you are looking to improve in order to get the results that you want.

Joint Strengthening

Joint health is critical to avoiding serious bone damage and pain. As horses age, their bones becomes weaker and can often effect their ability to walk properly. There are several conditions associated with joint pain in horses. Equine osteoarthritis, also referred to as degenerative joint disease, is a very serious threat to horse performance and health. Horses experiencing this condition are prone to lameness, shorter career life, severe pain, and decreased joint movement. Glucosamine, MSM and Hyaluronic Acid are a few of the main ingredients that greatly benefit your horses joints. Click here to read more about the importance of these nutraceuticals.

Digestive Health

Prebiotics and probiotics are essential to the overall health of your horse. Creating a healthy gut helps with digestion, resistance to disease, and an active lifestyle. If not taken care of properly, horses are more susceptible to equine colic, a painful affliction with symptoms such as anxiety, depression, severe gut pain, lack of appetite, and lack of defecation. Here at Horse Guard we have a line of products that include powerful gut support, as well as products designed specifically for gut health.

Hoof Care

Strong and flexible hooves are the sign of a healthy horse. Biotin and protein are among the most powerful supplemental ingredients that horses need to maintain solid hoof structure and avoid cracking and weak hooves. Taking good care of your horse’s hooves will help to avoid bruising, abscesses, thrush, and white line disease.

Overall Health

For overall horse health, there are a wealth of multi-vitamins that maintain proper health and increase performance. Just like humans, horses don’t always receive all of the nutrients that they need every day. Providing all of the necessary vitamins and nutrients improves muscle recovery time, alertness, shinier and healthier coats, ability to fight off infections, and not to mention, overall happiness!

I have a three year old filly who was diagnosed with cvm and possible wobbler’s syndrome. I was told to give her 5000 IU of vit E and scoop of MSN daily. What would you recommend feeding her? Her neurological symptoms have diminished. I live in Kentucky and the filly is stalled or in a dry lot.

Sorry to hear about your horse. I would recommend feeding your horse our vitamin E and selenium product along with hoof guard. This will provide your horse 5,000 IU of vitamin E, 3 mg of organic selenium, 32 mg of biotin, and 2,500 mg of msm. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
